Highly Efficient Backward Inclined Industrial Fans
AirPro’s backward inclined (BI) fans and blowers are engineered for maximum efficiency and quiet operation in clean air and high-temperature environments. Featuring flat, backward-inclined blades, these fans reduce airflow interference, resulting in lower energy consumption and minimal sound levels. Their non-overloading horsepower design makes them ideal for low-pressure applications, helping you cut operating costs without sacrificing performance.
Whether you’re moving clean air in a production facility or managing high-temperature exhaust in a demanding environment, our backward inclined blowers deliver dependable airflow and long-lasting value.
Backward Inclined Fan Description
Every backward inclined fan in our lineup is constructed by welding high-grade metals together to build a product fit to handle rugged, industrial environments. Our customers count on these fans to keep their operations running 24/7, and we deliver with craftsmanship that ensures reliability, efficiency, and airflow accuracy.
Backward Inclined Fan & Blower Types
BIHS
Backward-Inclined, High-Volume, Single-Width
The backward inclined blower moves high volumes of clean air at lower static pressures. It is available in belt-driven, direct-driven, and direct-coupled arrangements with varying impeller and housing widths.
BIMS
Backward-Inclined, Medium-Volume, Single-Width
Designed for medium air volume levels, the BIMS operates at its peak performance point with static efficiencies in excess of 80%. This product is ideally suited for clean air applications demanding less volume than the BIHS is ideally suited for, and less pressure than the BCMS is ideally suited for.
BILS
Backward-Inclined, Low-Volume, Single-Width
Designed as a narrower wheel offering in a backward inclined profile, the BILS moves lower air volumes than the BIMS at lower static pressures than the BCLS. Its rugged construction lends itself to simpler manufacturing and thus a nice option to consider when the application case fits it well.
BIHD
Backward-Inclined, High-Volume, Double-Width
This backward inclined fan model is similar to the BIHS except that the impeller and housing are double the width. This gives the BIHD a higher air flow capacity.
Industrial Backward Inclined Fan Performance & Design
- Volume: up to 500,000 cfm
- Pressure: up to 60”wg
- Temperature: up to 1800°F
- Static Efficiency: up to 82%
- Drive: Belt & Direct
Choosing the ideal model depends on your system’s required air volume, static pressure, gas temperature, and whether the airflow is clean or particulate-laden. AirPro’s experienced application engineers will review your specifications and help you select the optimal fan solution to ensure reliable, efficient performance in your specific operating environment.
FEATURED FAN
Un-Housed Blower for High Volumes of Clean Air
AirPro designed this backward inclined, high-volume, un-housed fan (BIHU) for a commercial HVAC application requiring high volumes of clean air at lower static pressures. We developed this type of backward inclined fan with a focus on high efficiency without compromising mechanical strength.
This fan features a welded carbon steel un-housed wheel with a piezometer ring installed in the spun inlet cone. Credit to our design team for creating a very functional, application-specific fan for the customer’s needs.
- Product Type: BIHV/BIHU
- Application: Commercial HVAC
- Description: Class 2, Arr. 4 V, 1.8hp, 150ºF max temp design
- Performance: 14,000 CFM @ 30″ wg static pressure
How the Backward Inclined Fan Works
Backward inclined high-volume fans operate similarly to backward curved designs. Air enters through the center of the wheel, hits the hub, and exits along the blades. The flat blade configuration and gradual leading edge reduces friction quickly and improves construction efficiency, resulting in an economical and high-performing product line.
For high-volume, low-pressure applications, fan selection depends heavily on airflow needs. Double-width blade models boost capacity without increasing wheel diameter and are compatible with belt drive, direct drive, or direct-coupled setups—making them a reliable choice for efficient industrial air movement.
Common Industrial Backward Inclined Fan Applications
General Ventilation:
In dust collection applications, BI fans typically provide induced draft air, sucking dust-laden air through a dust collector/baghouse.
Air Pollution Control:
Backward inclined blowers are key components of a wide range of air pollution control equipment.
Additional Applications:
Industrial fans & blowers are used in countless applications across many different industries.
