When designing and installing your industrial fan, it is essential to consider the full system and long term needs, including surrounding ductwork and fan maintenance.
If you don’t plan ahead, you may find it difficult to access the fan impeller without disturbing the duct attached to the fan inlet and/or outlet. This can be a big problem in the field, especially when the fan wheel and shaft must be removed as an assembly on larger fans.
Split fan housings make it easier to access the fan wheel, and they include both horizontal and pie split designs. The pie split design can be your best option when the fan discharge position doesn’t allow a horizontal split without disrupting attached ductwork. How Does a Pie Split Help with Fan Maintenance around Ductwork?
The pie split housing allows you to remove a chunk of the fan housing. It looks like a slice of pie that you would remove from the fan, providing access to the fan wheel and shaft. In order to do this, you simply remove the bolts around the slice and pull the section away from the rest of the housing. Now you can reach in to pull your wheel vertically out of this housing, along with the shaft, if necessary, without disturbing any of your connection points.
With this configuration, you won’t have to remove any ductwork to do critical or preventative fan maintenance.
