Squirrel Cage Blower Wheel with Forward Curved Blades
What some may call a squirrel cage blower wheel is also what we call a forward-curved centrifugal fan. Either way, it gets its name based on the many small blades that make up this fan wheel causing it to look like a squirrel cage or hamster wheel! The result is a blower that moves higher volumes of air and gasses at low pressures for various industrial operations.
How the Squirrel Cage Blower Wheel Works
The squirrel cage blower wheel is often used in our plug fan arrangement (also known as Arrangement 2), requiring no ductwork as it mounts directly to an enclosure to circulate the air. The fan wheel rotates clockwise or counter-clockwise, with the small forward-curved blades scooping the airflow and slinging it out as the wheel rotates.
It is designed to move high-volume airflow with very little static pressure. That makes this design optimal for applications like furnaces or ovens that use convection heat, and need to maintain the same temperature within the space.
